SAG Awards Nominations

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Awards season has begun and I could not be more excited! The SAG Award nominations were released today so I thought I'd take a look and give some feedback.

FILM
My opinions on the film category is going to be pretty slim because I've only seen a handful of the films.
OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY A CAST IN A MOTION PICTURE
"12 Years A Slave"
"American Hustle"
"August: Osage County"
"Dallas Buyers Club"
"Lee Daniels' The Butler"
I think this is going to be a tough one. I've only seen The Butler and 12 Years A Slave, but I really want to see the other 3. Of the ones I've seen, I'd pick The Butler, but the cast of American Hustle is fantastic so I think that one has a pretty great cast. David O'Russell has a pretty great track record with cast performances so I can't wait to check it out!
OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY A MALE ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE
Bruce Dern, "Nebraska"
Chiwetel Ejiofor, "12 Years A Slave"
Tom Hanks, "Captain Phillips"
Matthew McConaughey, "Dallas Buyers Club"
Forest Whitaker, "Lee Daniels' The Butler"
Tough one, I think I'll have to see a few more films to make a decision, but I've heard great things about McConaughey and Bruce Dern.
OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY A FEMALE ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE
Cate Blanchett, "Blue Jasmine"
Sandra Bullock, "Gravity"
Judi Dench, "Philomena"
Meryl Streep, "August: Osage County"
Emma Thompson, "Saving Mr. Banks"
OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY A MALE ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE
Barkhad Abdi, "Captain Phillips"
Daniel Bruhl, "Rush"
Michael Fassbender, "12 Years A Slave"
James Gandolfini, "Enough Said"
Jared Leto, "Dallas Buyers Club"
I've only seen 12 Years A Slave so again I can't really comment but I think that Jared Leto in Dallas Buyers Club seemed to really give it 100% so I think he really has a chance.
OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY A FEMALE ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE
Jennifer Lawrence, "American Hustle"
Lupita Nyong'o, "12 Years A Slave"
Julia Roberts, "August: Osage County"
June Squibb, "Nebraska"
Oprah Winfrey, "Lee Daniels' The Butler"
Again, I've only seen two of these, but I thought that Oprah was unreal. She would definitely be my choice.
OUTSTANDING ACTION PERFORMANCE BY STUNT ENSEMBLE MOTION PICTURE
"All is Lost"
"Fast and Furious 6"
"Lone Survivor"
"Rush"
"The Wolverine"
The Wolverine is the only one I've seen, and I thought it was pretty good, probably wouldn't win though.
TELEVISION

OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY AN ENSEMBLE IN A DRAMA SERIES
"Boardwalk Empire"
"Breaking Bad"
"Downton Abbey"
"Game of Thrones"
"Homeland"
So tough! I love these shows. I think I'd go with Breaking Bad though. Such a fantastic series overall. I'd be happy with any though.
OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY AN ENSEMBLE IN A COMEDY SERIES
"30 Rock"
"Arrested Development"
"The Big Bang Theory"
"Modern Family"
"Veep"
I would LOVE to see Arrested Development win this one! Its been so long.
OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY A MALE ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES
Steve Buscemi, "Boardwalk Empire"
Bryan Cranston, "Breaking Bad"
Jeff Daniels, "The Newsroom"
Peter Dinklage, "Game of Thrones"
Kevin Spacey, "House of Cards"
Definitely Kevin Spacey. He was absolutely magnificent in this series, he's one of my favourite actors and this performance just puts it over the top!
OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY A FEMALE ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES
Claire Danes, "Homeland"
Anna Gunn, "Breaking Bad"
Jessica Lange, "American Horror Story"
Maggie Smith, "Downton Abbey"
Kerry Washington, "Scandal"
Claire Danes is pretty fantastic, but Anna Gunn would be a great way to end the series. Such a great group of strong women, I'd be happy with any!
OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY A MALE ACTOR IN A COMEDY SERIES
Alec Baldwin, "30 Rock"
Jason Bateman, "Arrested Development"
Ty Burrell, "Modern Family"
Don Cheadle, "House of Lies"
Jim Parsons, "The Big Bang Theory"
Ty Burrell is so hilarious. Definitely one of my favourite characters in a comedy right now. He always cracks me up.
OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY A FEMALE ACTOR IN A COMEDY SERIES
Mayim Bialik, "The Big Bang Theory"
Julie Bowen, "Modern Family"
Edie Falco, "Nurse Jackie"
Tina Fey, "30 Rock"
Julia Louis-Dreyfus, "Veep"
Probably Julie Bowen or Tina Fey. Great characters.

Matt Damon, "Behind the Candelabra"
Michael Douglas, "Behind the Candelabra"
Jeremy Irons, "The Hollow Crown"
Rob Lowe, "Killing Kennedy"
Al Pacino, "Phil Spector"
Unfortunately I have not seen any of these yet, but I've seen some great things about Michael Douglas.
OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY A FEMALE ACTOR IN A TELEVISION MOVIE OR MINISERIES
Angela Bassett, "Betty and Corretta"
Helena Bonham Carter, "Burton and Taylor"
Holly Hunter, "Top of the Lake"
Helen Mirren, "Phil Spector"
Elisabeth Moss, "Top of the Lake"
Top of the Lake was fantastic, Elisabeth Moss and Holly Hunter were both fantastic, but I think my top choice would be Elisabeth Moss.
OUTSTANDING ACTION PERFORMANCE BY STUNT ENSEMBLE IN A TELEVISION SERIES
"Boardwalk Empire"
"Breaking Bad"
"Game of Thrones"
"Homeland"
"The Walking Dead"
Probably Game of Thrones? I'd imagine that it requires a lot more training and skill.

Top 10 Directors

This weeks list topic is Top 10 Directors. I found this list very difficult because most of these directors who have created different worlds that have changed our lives, or taught us something about ourselves that we didn't know beforehand.  10.) Sam Mendes I think most people have actually not heard of Sam Mendes, although his name is getting a lot of coverage lately for the amazing job he did on the most recent Bond film  Skyfall .  He's actually only Directed 9 films so far, but all of them have been pretty well-known and extremely well recieved.  American Beauty ,  Road to Perdition ,  Jarhead ,  Revolutionary Road , etc. Since  American Beauty  is one of my very favorite films of all time, I had to allow him to make it onto this list. Like I said, he's only done a few films but thats incredibly exciting because he definitely got some serious potential, and after seeing his most recent film,  Skyfall , I can only assume its going...

The Invisible Man

IMDB: 7.1 /10 Rotten Tomatoes: 91%(critics), 88%(audience) Director:  Leigh Whannell Writers:  Leigh Whannell Stars:  Elisabeth Moss, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Harriet Dyer, Aldis Hodge, Storm Reid Release Date:  28 February 2020 It's an absolute tragedy that this movie was released when it was because so many people(myself included) did not get to experience this movie in theatres, and unfortunately, I think a lot of people will miss it altogether because it didn't get the exposure it should have. I personally decided to pay the $20 to watch it on demand at the beginning of the pandemic, and I was glad to have the escape from reality.  I think if I had gone into this film realizing that it was from the team who brought us Paranormal Activity, and other horror movies that were way too scary for me to watch or enjoy, I think I would've run away screaming. But, thankfully my love of Elisabeth Moss and the fact that I assumed it was a thriller, made me comfortable eno...

Top 10 Comedies

24 March 2013 Since last week's list was full of tears, I thought it would be appropriate to change it up a bit and make this list full of laughter. Here's the list, I found this one pretty hard because I think that people's sense of humour are pretty different, so I think a lot of people will probably disagree with me on a lot of these, but this is my list and my blog so I don't care. 10.) Easy A I honestly don't know if this film is genuinely funny, or if the 80s bratpack movie references just took over the nostalgia part of me, but I really love this movie.  Emma Stone  is fantastic as always in this film, so many great moments. Really shows what high school is like, and how quickly rumours are started and how quickly you can go from unknown to the most popular name in school overnight. Genuinely hilarious. Apart from  Stone , the cast also includes  Amanda Bynes ,  Penn Badgley ,  Patricia Clarkson , Stanley Tucci ,  Dan Byrd ,...
